Create a diagramless crossword
Enter dimensions, black-square count and ordered clues without knowing the black-square layout.
If you know the black-square layout, use the classic creator: the puzzle can be played in either mode. Here you create a free grid, without a reference solution or automatic checking.
Clues in temporarily excluded rows or columns stay in the draft and reappear if you increase the dimensions again.
Continue →Enter one clue per text line, in word order: left to right for rows and top to bottom for columns. Do not prefix clues with grid numbers.
Import all clues
Paste text or read it from a photo. Numbers identify rows for across clues and columns for down clues. Add a full stop after each number (1.); separate clues in the same sequence with |. Always review before applying.

ACROSS: 1. First clue | Second clue 2. Clue for row 2 DOWN: 1. First clue | Second clue
Read clues from a photo (OCR)
The image is processed in your browser. The OCR engine and language data are downloaded on request. Read multiple photos or regions one at a time, appending text before applying it.
Drag on the photo to select the region to read. Without a selection, the whole image is read.
If a clue contains a spaced dash, choose “Only |” and use | only between different clues. Wrapped text lines are joined into the same clue.
Edit individual sequences
The draft is saved in this browser. The game shows an empty, unnumbered grid and a counter of placed black squares against the declared total.
